If your knots don t slide or come loose you ve missed something.
Tying a rope halter.
Do not leave any halter on a loose horse.
So just continue practicing.
To tie a rope halter start by tying 2 regular knots in the middle of the rope.
A rope halter is best used with a 12 foot lead rope for more leverage.
Hold both large loops and pull both loose ends.
The only exception is if it is made to break away if the horse becomes tangled.
Don t leave any halter especially a rope halter on your horse while in the pasture.
Don t use a rope halter on foals.
You should now have two loops about 10 inches below the nose knots that will serve as your lead tie loops.
Tie knot 2 easier to loosen time.

Tying the rope halter.
This isn t just any halter tying course.
The narrowness of the rope can cause severe rope burn if the horse pulls back.
Continue to tie the rest of the rope halter to complete it.
Not recommended for tying a horse in a trailer.

Once you have the halter properly positioned on your horse s head take the end rope behind the loop and pull the rope downward and through the loophole.
A rope halter may cut if a horse fights it.
Then extend the 2 ends of the rope and tie a simple overhand knot on the bottom strand and the top strand to form the throat latch.
